Steps to follow when your car is damaged

Even if you are only slightly injured in an accident, make sure to follow these steps. You may not have yet realized the full extent of your injuries, so it’s better to be prudent.

Immediately after the accident

Call emergency services. Once at the scene, ask them to produce an accident report. Once emergency services have been contacted, contact us. We will open your complaint file and accompany you every step of the way, until it is resolved.

Then, as soon as possible, get yourself checked out by a doctor. In addition to assessing your condition, your doctor will list all the symptoms associated with your accident in the medical report. Ask your doctor to send all their reports to the SAAQ.

In the days following the accident

You must contact the SAAQ (Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec) as soon as possible, so that your file can be opened quickly. You will receive your file number by telephone. Then you will receive documents by mail for you and your doctor to complete.

The SAAQ covers all road users who reside in Quebec. Residents of Quebec who sustain bodily injuries in an accident are compensated, whether they were responsible for the accident or not.
