Put the brakes on distracted driving!

In a survey conducted online by Leger in August 2013, 93 per cent of teens and 97 per cent of adults with valid driver’s licences admitted to having engaged in some form of distracted driving. And Ontario teen drivers scored a little worse than the national average for talking on the phone or texting while driving: 73 per cent, while Ontario adults, at 62 per cent, scored better than the national average.  These are the people belairdirect wants to reach with its new bumpr application.

Given the scale and gravity of the problem, successive awareness campaigns have been mounted and everyone wants to do their part to promote change. It is with this goal in mind that belairdirect is proud to have launched bumpr, a mobile application for Android devices that prevents drivers from being distracted by their cell phones while on the road.

Safe driving is important to us

As an insurer, we are always looking for ways to better protect motorists and we are concerned about the issue of texting and calling while driving. Young drivers are particularly adept at using cell phones and social networks, and so are their parents. They can both wind up in dangerous situations if they text while driving. People who text or read messages take their eyes off the road for about four to five seconds and that could have tragic consequences.

Steer clear of distractions with bumpr!

According to the same survey cited above, 67 per cent of people who text while driving say they can’t help but read incoming text messages, even while they’re at the wheel. In addition, 35 per cent say they can’t resist answering immediately. It’s these people that belairdirect wants to reach with bumpr, a virtual safety net.

The app is free and available to anyone who can’t resist answering calls while driving, even if they’re not a belairdirect customer. And this new mobile application is very user-friendly. With bumpr:

  • You avoid being distracted by text messages or notifications while driving.
  • You can choose from a wide range of humorous automated responses, informing the caller that you are driving.
  • Once installed, the application starts automatically when the vehicle reaches a speed of 20km/h.
  • If you are not the driver, you can deactivate the app.
  • You have access to the history of notifications that were received while driving.

Trade-in your texting and social networking while driving for the belairdirect bumpr application.
