In Case of an Accident
Here are a few suggestions on how to deal with a loss involving your car:
- Always report an accident to the police:
a) if anyone is injured; or
b) if total damages to all vehicles exceed $1,000.
- If your vehicle is drivable to a safe location, make it out of traffic and exchange information with the other driver(s).
- In most cases when the vehicle is not drivable, a tow truck will take it to the nearest Collision Reporting Centre. You can contact us from there to receive further instructions. Please note that the tow truck driver is legally bound to drop your vehicle off at the Collision Reporting Centre and that you do not have to bring it to a repair shop right away.
- Do not accept fault for the accident, even if you think you may be responsible.
- Exchange full information with the other driver, including name, address, telephone number, driver’s licence number, insurance company name and policy number, and year/make/model of vehicle.
- Contact us as soon as possible after an accident. We can confirm your insurance coverage, tell you whether or not you’re entitled to any services or to a rental car, and recommend a repair shop. You can reach a belairdirect Claims Representative at 1 877.228.2656, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Obtain contact information from any witnesses. Do not consider passengers in your vehicle or people known to either party.
- Do not get any repairs done, other than those necessary to make the vehicle drivable (i.e., installing a spare tire, patching a damaged tire). Please contact us before making any other repairs.
