Starting a car or home insurance claim

 We want to make it as easy as possible for you to start your car or home insurance claim. You only need a few things to begin:

  • Your policy number (or your phone number if you don’t have your policy number handy)
  • As many details as possible regarding the incident
  • A police or fire department report (if one was made)

How a car insurance claim works

 When you file a car insurance claim, a claims representative will take you through an easy, step-by-step process until your claim is completed. If your vehicle needs repairs, you’ll be able to depend on our Rely Network® repair shops to deliver quality work, guaranteed.**

 Here’s how the claim process works when something happens to your vehicle. Remember, each incident is unique and your claim may be different according to your specific situation and coverage.

For windshield and window repair

  1. Open a claim
  2. Your car goes in for repairs
  3. You pay your deductible at the repair shop (if applicable)
  4. We issue payment to the repair shop
  5. Your claim is closed

For collision repair

  1. Open a claim and gather information about the accident
  2. An estimate is done for the work needed on your vehicle
  3. The facts surrounding the accident is analysed to establish liability
  4. Your car goes in for repairs (you may be provided with a rental car)
  5. You pay your deductible at the repair shop (if applicable)
  6. We issue payment to you (if the repair shop is part of the Rely Network, we pay them directly)
  7. Your claim is closed

For theft or fire

  1. Open a claim
  2. You may be provided with a rental car
  3. Information is gathered about the incident
  4. Your claim is assessed for payment***
  5. We issue payment to you (or, if the repair shop is part of the Rely Network, we pay them directly)
  6. Your claim is closed

For all other claims (e.g. vandalism, water damage, hail, collision with an animal)

  1. Open a claim and gather information about the accident
  2. An estimate is done for the work needed on your vehicle
  3. Your car goes in for repairs (you may be provided with a rental car)
  4. You pay your deductible at the repair shop (if applicable)
  5. We issue payment to you (if the repair shop is part of the Rely Network, we pay them directly)
  6. Your claim is closed

When you file a home insurance claim, a claims representative will take you through an easy, step-by-step process until your claim is completed. If your home requires repairs, you can choose from our Rely Network® of professional property restoration contractors to deliver quality work, guaranteed.****

Here’s how the claim process typically works. Remember, each incident is unique and your claim may be different according to your specific case and coverage.

For theft

  1. Open a claim
  2. Information is gathered about the incident
  3. Your claim is assessed for payment
  4. We issue payment to you and/or replace the stolen items
  5. Your claim is closed

For a major loss (e.g. due to water damage)

  1. Open a claim
  2. If needed, we will help you temporarily relocate
  3. Meet with a claims adjuster
  4. Assessment and estimation of damage
  5. We issue payment to you, replace lost items or have your home repaired
  6. You return home
  7. Your claim is closed

For a minor loss (e.g. due to sewer backup water damage, vandalism, hail or wind)

  1. Open a claim
  2. Assessment and estimation of damage
  3. If repairs are needed, you choose a supplier
  4. We issue payment to you, replace lost items or help you repair your home
  5. Your claim is closed

* 30 Minute Claims Guarantee Terms and Conditions
Our guarantee is that within 30 minutes of answering your call, belairdirect claims representative will start the claims process, and will have the ability to take charge of the situation and arrange emergency support if required (the "Guarantee"). This applies only in respect of new loss or damage not previously reported to belairdirect in respect of a valid belairdirect personal auto or home policy (the "Policy"). The support offered by our claims representatives depends on your insurance coverage and when we receive your call. To activate the Guarantee, the policyholder must call and speak to a claims representative. No other form of communication is permitted to activate the Guarantee. The Guarantee is not valid if belairdirect's operations are impacted by a system failure or catastrophic situation occurring in Canada at the time of your call, such as: earthquake, blackout, hailstorm, forest fire, flood, act of terrorism, war or other major natural disaster, or political unrest. If we are not able to live up to the Guarantee we will write you a cheque in the amount of the annual premium of your home or auto insurance Policy relating to the claim to a maximum of $1,000. Your coverage will not be affected as a direct result of this payment. Terms and conditions of this Guarantee may change without notice.
** The repairs are guaranteed for as long as you own your vehicle.
*** In case of vehicle theft, the claim may not be assessed for payment until the expiry of a thirty (30) day period.
